About the role
We are currently seeking Casual Disability Support Workers to work with a client who is a 20-year-old woman. The client is quadriplegic, ventilator dependent, and uses a PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) tube for enteral feeding. The role requires you to assist the client with all ADL (Assistance with Daily Life) tasks, provide clinical support of the ventilator, tracheostomy, and PEG. The client also has persistent mental health issues and occasional periods of heightened distress, which requires a level of emotional intelligence, understanding, and support.
This role involves both personal support and emotional support. If you have a positive mindset, situational awareness, clear communication, are intuitive, responsive, and client-focused, this role is for you.
The workplace for this client is LGBTQIA+ friendly.
Background experience is highly desirable, though it is not necessary. Full training is provided to the right candidate for this role.
Please note until you have received training, you will only be rostered for 16:00-20:00 (4pm-8pm) ADL shifts until full training and buddy shifts are completed. Generally, if you already have experience in the industry, you may be placed into buddy shifts for 6-8hr shifts soon after 3 or 4 16:00-20:00 (4pm-8pm) ADL shifts.
Your key responsibilities
The client is looking for a dedicated and passionate Disability Support Worker who can undertake the following key responsibilities:
* Tracheostomy care
* Ventilator care
* Suctioning oral and respiratory secretions
* Enteral feeding management (Flocare Infinity)
* Maintaining and cleaning medical and disability equipment
* Manual handling - positioning the body of the client, lifting and moving equipment or other objects, etc.
* Medication preparation and administration
* Domestic assistance
* Companionship
* Community access assistance
