The Role: Senior Medical Receptionist

In this role, you will be responsible for providing a high level of patient service while supporting the day-to-day administration of the specialist practice. Your responsibilities will include coordinating appointments and schedules, analysing referrals and ensuring they are appropriately managed, communicating with patients regarding consultations and hospital admissions and providing patients with relevant information throughout their care journey.

You will work closely with doctors, specialists, anaesthetists and the wider administration team to ensure the efficient running of the practice and surgical services. The role will also involve maintaining accurate patient records, preparing and distributing theatre lists, invoicing surgical accounts, submitting accounts to health funds and third parties, receiving and receipting payments, and assisting with the general administration of the consulting business.

What You'll Bring

  • Previous experience working in medical administration, medical reception or within specialist medical rooms
  • Strong communication and customer service skills with a professional and empathetic approach
  • Experience liaising with patients, doctors and other healthcare professionals
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy clinical environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy across administration and documentation
  • Knowledge of patient management systems and Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Familiarity with Medicare and private health fund billing
  • Experience with invoicing, payments and receipting will be highly regarded
  • A collaborative, flexible approach and willingness to support the wider team
  • Experience within ophthalmology or another specialist medical practice will be highly regarded
